Getting back into the swing of it!

Scottie with his whiskers

We have been back at University nearly a week now and we are starting to get back into our old routines now. Lectures start on Monday, so we have got back in the swing of it just in time!

Scottie is all settled in, which isn’t a surprise, he always settles fairly easily. His old field mate is back too, which he is happy about! Millie is owned by Eva, a girl on my course, so Scottie and Millie spend a lot of time together!

I have only ridden Scottie twice since being back. This is mainly due to the fact that I have been busy sorting out stuff here, but also because I thought it would be nice for him to have more time to relax while he settled back in. However, our first schooling session being back went very well. I don’t know what was different, but we managed to pick up the right canter lead at least 3 times out of the 6 times I asked for it. We even managed to pick Β it up on our first attempt! I couldn’t believe it as this is something we have really been struggling with. Hopefully I will be able to work out how we did it!

I am looking forward to starting lectures, as I have some interesting modules this semester and it will help me get into a better routine! I have also started ‘working’ again. Last year I was helping a very novice family with a new pony. I love this pony, he is very sharp and can be really bolshy on the ground – a typical grumpy pony! But to ride in the school he is a dream and hacking out in company is good as gold. The family are lovely too, but they are a bit nervous and very inexperienced. However, they are getting much better and he is a great pony for the daughters to learn to ride on.
