I have finished my first week in my new job at a company which supplies to farriers. One of the products the company is really pushing at the moment is copper coated nails. I am finding this product fascinating!
The idea behind the product is that the copper somehow kills bad bacteria and helps keep the hoof healthy. The product claims to help a variety of problems, including horses which regularly lose shoes. After seeing loads of before and after cases in my first week at work, I think there could be a lot of potential in these nails!
I am hoping Scottie has stopped pulling his shoes off now. But if he starts this habit again, I think I will have a word with the farrier and see if he will get some of these nails to try for Scottie. There have been loads of articles on these nails online over recent months. If you are interested in this product, it is called ‘Liberty Cu Nail’ by Kerckhaert, you could ask your farrier about it if you think it might help your horses.
