Once again this month I wasn’t too pleased with our 2 dressage entries. They were both fine tests but I just knew they weren’t our best and that Scottie can do better. But since things are still a bit up and down where I am trying to adjust our riding routine to the early sunsets and now the busy build up to Christmas starting, I accept that on the days we are able to get filming in, I just have to accept that what we get is what we get.
Despite my feelings about our tests, we did reasonably well. We did Intro A where we came 4th with 65.65%, just missing out on a rosette in a very small class. This wasn’t a bad score for us at all, I just think our last few months have been very successful, putting a bit of a downer on it!
Throughout the tests we scored mostly 6s and 6.5s, again respectable scores with the odd 7 and 7.5 thrown in here and there. So a Good test. The comments were also very fair saying that Scottie needed to be more forwards into the bridle and lacking suppleness over his back in places.
Our Collectives were:
Rhythm: 7 (14)
Suppleness: 6.5 (13)
Contact: 6 (12)
Rider Position: 7 (14)
Rider Effectiveness: 6.5 (13)
“Attractive horse”
We also did Prelim 2, which for those of you who remember back to April, was the first ever prelim we attempted! Again, this test was fine, not as good as I had hoped, but it was fine. We came 2nd (out of 2, but we get a rosette so it counts!) and scored 63.6%, which is possibly our second best prelim score ever and nearly 10% better than our first attempt at this test just 6 months ago. So from that perspective, this test was a massive improvement!
Again, we scored mainly 6s and 6.5s in this test, with the odd 7, but also a 5.5 and 5 for some canter work, which is a bit of a shame, but again very fair. It was the same judge as our intro and the comments were pretty much the same. In our feedback video Steph from E-Dressage also made a comment about how much our canter has improved, so that was nice to hear!
Our Collectives were:
Rhythm: 7 (14)
Suppleness: 6.5 (13)
Contact: 5.5 (11)
Rider Position: 7 (14)
Rider Effectiveness: 6.5 (13)
So although this month’s tests weren’t quite as good as we have had recently, but the prelim in particular is a very good reflection of how much we have improved over the past 6 months and I’m really proud of that improvement. Hopefully I will be able to be stricter with myself and get Scottie into a better routine so we can continue to improve through these dark winter months! Plus we get another gorgeous rosette for our efforts!
