Escaping the Cold

the guinea pigs

It’s been so cold recently that the pig twins have had to come inside for a few days. This is because their hutch has had frost on the inside the past few days which then seems to melt and make their bed a bit damp. So I thought the best thing to do would be to bring them inside until the weather warms up a bit!

Unfortunately, we don’t have a spare hutch or an inside hutch for them, so I have had to improvise. I re-purposed the old dog crate which has been sitting outside for years. It needed a bit of work, such as pulling it back into shape and taping in place, so that there weren’t any gaps big enough for the pigs to escape through.

They have plenty of bedding and hay with a little hut to hide away in. It also means we don’t have to worry about their water freezing. They will be in the conservatory for now. So although it’s warmer than outside, it’s not as warm as the rest of the house so it shouldn’t be a shock to their system. Hopefully the moving isn’t too stressful for them, but it will be better for them than being damp and cold!! Expect to see a few more photos of them on social media over the next week before they head back outside.
