Scottie’s leg has been looking fantastic recently. There has been no liquid draining from it for at least 4 days and it had started to close really nicely. There was just a small part left which had scabbed over and was getting smaller every single day.
Because it was going so well, I was starting to make plans to get back on. I was thinking that if it continued to heal as it had been and if that final small bit had closed by the weekend, that it would be time to get back on. I was planning on doing more in hand work in the school with him this week to try and get us both back into the working frame of mind.
However, yesterday Scottie put an end to this. He decided that the grass is literally greener on the other side of the fence and escaped from his pen. Upon finding him I discovered that he had torn open his wound again and was quite sore on it.
Luckily, it looks like it is just the skin which has torn open and that the flesh underneath has knitted together quite nicely. So I didn’t feel like an urgent visit from the vets was needed. I hosed it off, cleaned it up and covered with cream and have confined him to his stable until the vet manages to get out to us today to double check it.
The fact that it had stopped dripping and had closed makes me think that how annoying this is, it is just a minor set back rather than anything serious. On the plus side, where it had been closing, it was sticking out quite a bit and the top side seemed to overhang the bottom. This bumpier flesh seems to have disappeared, so maybe this set back will lead to a nicer scar in the long run.
Fingers crossed this won’t be too much of setback for us, but I will keep you all updated on the progress.
