Today is Blue Monday – the saddest, most depressing day of the year. Not only is it Monday, but Christmas is over and we are starting to feel the pinch of our over spending during the festivities. It’s cold, dark and just pretty miserable. So it’s not surprising the most depressing day of the year is today. But today I thought I would share all the great things about winter, to help get you through the 58 days until spring.
Sunny, Frosty Mornings
While it is still cold getting up to do the horses, I love the sunny mornings when there is frost on the ground. I just think it is absolutely beautiful! Yes you still need to layer up. But I quite enjoy being out in this type of winter weather!
Cosy Rugs
I love buying rugs. They are probably my favourite thing to buy for Scottie. But since he is quite hardy, winter is the only time he really gets to wear them. The rest of the year they just sit there gathering dust.
Thermals

It’s very rare I buy things for myself. It’s not really something I enjoy. But recently I have gotten really into my thermals. As sad as it seems, I get excited about all the thermal base layers and underbreeches out there. They are a fantastic bit of kit and it’s great to be able to dig them out the wardrobe and live in them!
Hot Chocolate & Pajamas

If I have had a chilly afternoon or weekend morning at the yard, I love to come home, get into my pajamas and have a hot chocolate! Some of you may know that I work for Hotel Chocolat and they have recently created their own hot chocolate machine, the Velvetiser, which makes gorgeous hot chocolate. It’s my winter guilty pleasure!
Holiday
Finally, winter isn’t great fun for riding. It’s cold, muddy and no day light. This means it is the perfect time to give your horse a bit of a holiday without feeling guilty.

This is great – so important to find things to love about winter! What are your favourite thermals? I tend to just wear layer after layer of whatever, with no rhyme or reason, til I’ve got so many layers on I can’t move my arms! xx
I think my zero fit move is my favourite. It’s light but really warm and has special fibres to warm you up as you move. But I don’t get too hot in it either. I reviewed it here: https://equipepper.com/2018/10/03/zerofit-heat-rub-move-review/
I am also a sucker for thermals! Keeping warm is the best tactic for surviving winter!
Some great top tips in there that we all seem to forget about under the “doom” of winter! Super positive post!
