It has been an exciting few days of dressage here at Badminton with Oliver Townend setting a record breaking dressage score of 19.7 with Cillnabradden Evo as the 4th horse in the ring! He repeated this feat by sitting in second place on his second horse Ballaghmor Class with a score of 21.1. But the competition remains close with all the top ten/twenty having sub 30 scores.

The Ex Racehorses at Badminton

Arctic Soul

Arctic Soul Badminton Dressage

Arctic Soul was the first of the ex racehorses to head into the dressagearena yesterday. Unfortunately he tensed up and didn’t shine how we all know he can do. This meant he finished the dressage with 39.7 penalties and pushed him down the leaderboard. Gemma summed his performance up perfectly on her Instagram.

So today totally didn’t go to plan. Poor boy got so upset and tense. With Oliver doing an incredible test just before us there was an electric atmosphere and Spike just gets so worried. He knows exactly what happens and goes on in that arena and he just couldn’t contain himself today. It’s his 6th time in a row at Badminton and he has done many prize givings! Feeling gutted about it for all his connections/owners and followers. To me he is still the most wonderful special boy and He owes me nothing at all. We got to put that silly dressage thing behind us and look forward to Saturday, I will be letting the beast go!! Thank you William Carey for the photo #ArcticSoul #stillmybestboy #lovehim

However, tomorrow is where Arctic Soul truly comes alive and I am sure we will see him climb back up the leaderboard here. As I have already mentioned, this year’s cross country course is very interesting and needs a quick thinking, quick footed horse. Which I believe Arctic Soul is.

Captain Jack

Captain Jack also didn’t perform at his best for Savanah Fulton today. He was also quite tense and struggled to either contain himself or understand the question being asked. He broke into trot a few times throughout the test and even when he was performing the correct movements, he was too tense to be getting the higher marks.

I am here again tomorrow and will be sharing photos and videos of the action from the cross country on my social media throughout the day, so make sure you follow us. I will also be updating you all on tomorrow’s results – so keep your eyes peeled!
