So this week is the end of Scottie’s 6 weeks rest after going lame again. I am pleased to say there has been an improvement in the last 2 weeks. You might have seen my update in week 4 about how Scottie was still noticeably lame, albeit subtly. Not helped by his antics in the field!
Well on Monday I decided it was time to have another look at him to see what was going on. He was incredibly fresh and attempted to canter on the lunge even on the hard ground – not what we needed! But he had improved a lot from when I looked at him 2 weeks ago.
I’m still not 100% sure he is sound, just because he is right on the cusp of what I can actually see. I can’t see any obvious signs of lameness. But I also feel like I might be seeing something. But I don’t know if I am looking to see something. After all, you can make any horse lame if you look at it long enough! So I am going to get the vet out hopefully this week or next for a second opinion.
Obviously I am hoping the vet comes and he is sound. Which means we can start bringing him back into work again. However, with how much he has improved in the last few weeks, even if he is mildly lame when the vet comes, I would be tempted to say give him 2 more weeks rest and then have another look. As while I don’t have an amazing eye for lameness, I can see how much he has improved in 2 weeks, so hopefully he would improve again in another 2 weeks.
It’s not really much else I can say until I have a second opinion from my vet. But I am seeing this as progress, even if it is slow progress. I will update you all again when I know more!
