Fantastic First Run For Wouldubewell

Wouldubewell

I have thought Wouldubewell has looked a promising prospect for quite a while now. But we have been sitting by, waiting for some really heavy ground for her, convinced this is where she will shine the most. This week we finally got the mud and we saw Wouldubewell make her debut in the Owners Group colours.

It looked a hard race. The small field of 5 horses all seemed fairly well matched. They all had pretty good Point to Point form and seemed to like the softer ground. So it was a hard race to call. Wouldubewell went into the race as the favourite, with possibly the best point to point form of them all. So we were quietly confident.

She has been working well at home and she has really just been waiting for a run for a while now. So we knew she would be ready when she finally got to step onto the track. We also knew that she would need a run to help get her race fit. So while we hoped she would be up there in the final stages, I don’t think any of us were confident of a win.

But she did us all proud! She ran quietly throughout, keeping in touch with the leaders, jumping well. She had a huge leap over the second last to take up the lead. Despite laboring, she cleared the last, albeit swerving slightly on landing and impeding the second placed horse. But she battled away to the line, hanging on to win the race!

The was a tense few minutes when we heard the bell for a stewards enquiry, not sure whether she would lose the win for her landing over the last. But luckily I think the long stretch from the last hurdle to the finish line played to our favour, giving the second placed horse a long time to recover and mount a challenge. So the placings remained unchanged after the enquiry.

This was incredibly exciting and I’m so pleased to be celebrating my first win as an Owner. I have been incredibly lucky and close with some great seconds from Chez Hans, Paris Dixie and Asdaa. But it is great to finally get across the line first. I really have a very exciting group of horses in my stable at the moment and I hope they keep trying as they have been so far!
