Ticking over and enjoying taking the pressure off

how to start long reining your horse

A few weeks ago I wrote about how important it is to take time out for yourself. While I am enjoying being back in a routine of blogging and Scottie, I am trying to keep some more time back for myself. I am away this weekend for a wedding and a mini break and I am really enjoying the extra time to myself.

If you follow us on social media, you will see that Scottie is back out in the field with his friend JoJo. They have been separated since we think Jo kicked Scottie when a member of the public was feeding them. But Jo is now in foal and we are planning on Scottie being the fun uncle! So we are starting them back out together while there is plenty of grass and we will see how we get on.

Scottie is ticking along nicely with work. Because I knew I was going away again, I haven’t upped his workload yet, instead keeping him walking with a little bit of trot on the lunge and long reins. I am really pleased with how he is looking and my plan is to spend the winter slowly building him up and see how he copes with more trot work. The dream is to do an intro dressage test next Summer.
